I have loved doing the advent activities this year, possibly even more than the children. It’s been a fab way to do things together while learning about the Christmas Story. On day 7 the activity was to ‘jump in the car and check out the Christmas lights around town’ (thus representing the starry sky above Bethlehem). We bundled in to the car, mum included, and drove up and down roads excitedly pointing out the most brightly displayed houses. As we approached the market place we could see crowds of people, so we parked up and went to find out what it was all about. We were surprised to see hundreds of people taking part in a beautiful lantern procession, enjoying a traditional Christmas market and the tune of carousel rides and games of ‘chance’ creating fun for many. We were soon part of the event as Charlotte spotted friends from school and we ventured around the various stalls and rides. One of the highlights of the evening was watching Father Christmas being rescued by Firefighters from the Town Hall before being whisked off by a horse/reindeer-drawn sleigh.
